French army units moved into Oran center to curb traffic and gatherings against the Secret Army Organization then withdrew without explanation. Officials expect a temporary withdrawal while settlers ignore warnings and patrols return. The move sparked speculation over open confrontations with the underground.

Wayne Township farmer Ivan Hatch, ill and despondent for years, hanged himself in the barn on Sciota road. His body was found by a son returning to the barn. a bail rope looped over a stanchion. Deputy Coroner James St. George said the verdict will be death by self action. Funeral arrangements are being made by Spitzer Funeral Home of Clymer.
ERLE Two area men are to be returned to Erle County from Westfield to face counterfeiting and bad check charges. Richard Sterling age 22 of Curbridge Springs and George A Weigle age 23 of Towerville, with four others, were arrested in Celor on a fugitive warrant. They allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit note at a Waterford business two weeks earlier and wrote bad checks to Corry merchants on March 16. They await grand jury in Meadville before extradition. Also editor J Morris Jones died in Chicago at 66.
Corry sixth grader Edward Dorschel, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Dorschel, outspelled 23 county rivals at Erie County finals to qualify for the state finals in Pittsburgh. Runner up was James Carroll of Lawrence Park Elementary. Dorschel earns a $25 bond, a dictionary, Britannica language set for Corry Area High School library, and Britannica year of service to the library.
London AP report says US Secretary of State Dean Rusk warned that ending the East West arms race requires Soviet openness, urging less secrecy as CENTO allies press for a stronger American role in Middle East defense and economy. He stressed cooperation with CENTO members and laid out travel to NATO talks and Australia for broader consultations.

Mrs. Marian Werner of Collinsburg, 33, is charged with murder in the strangulation of two born son Jeffrey. Coroner Stephen Yoney said she will receive psychiatric treatment at Westmoreland County jail. Jeffrey died Saturday at the Werner home. the father Charles, 36, quoted her saying I believe that I choked the baby. Yoney noted past nervous condition treatment.
