PA Farm Column Reports Feed Grain Shortage Outlook
Officials from Pennsylvania state and federal agencies project smaller feed grain supplies for the 1949-50 season. Despite plans for up to six percent more principal feed crops, yields are expected to fall from last year's record levels. Livestock and dairy sectors show improved oil cake availability, while dairymen hedge by importing feed wheat. Potatoes receive soil treatment in Cambria and surrounding counties to combat infestation, with copper sulfate applied to 25,000 pounds and quarantines to be lifted after four years if disease remains controlled.
