In Shamokin Pennsylvania on April 20 two miners Joseph Dragon of Kutztown and John Koskie of St. Carmel were entombed for nearly a day by a collapsed manway at Shipman Coal Company colliery. A seat on the New York Stock Exchange sold for 194000 amid a bidding round that rose 16000 above the prior price. The buyer’s identity was not immediately released, and the sale marked a new high for seats once traded for privileges on the exchange.

Harrisburg, Pa. April 29 Governor John S Fisher vetoed the Salus measure aimed to curb activities of any organizations or individuals who sought to investigate activities of cities or townships. The Salus bill would have required organizations such as the Committee of Seventy of Philadelphia to disclose a list of members and the organization's name.
A meeting of the High School Alumni Association executive committee last evening laid preliminary plans for the 1027 inception and reunion to be held in June. The Virgil G. Curtis Memorial Trust Fund campaign showed splendid progress.
Five defendants pleaded guilty in county court on Tuesday. Frank Anderson admitted defrauding a boarding house and received a suspended sentence. John Aldrich and Arthur Walker pleaded guilty to forgery and conspiracy, with sentences deferred. Donald Chase admitted four forgery counts, with sentence pending investigation of his second. Stanley Nowoexnsted received a two year parole, then two more years for receiving stolen goods, and later pleaded guilty to malicious mischief and operating a vehicle without consent.
