Plan for Metropolitan Districts in Erie Urban Area Proposed
A two tier district would lower rural taxes while urban areas pay more. Metropolitan districts would require neighbor municipalities to share services such as water supply sewage and solid waste disposal for part of the Erie urbanized area. Special service districts could be used in rural areas for police and fire protection. The Local Government Advisory Committee should be strengthened to boost intergovernmental cooperation. Mayor Edward Zarger of Corry sits on the committee where 30 county municipalities are represented. Waterford and LeBoeuf Townships are not represented.
