Britain to sponsor pacification plan hope to avoid long debate

Paris dispatch says Britain plans a three point peace approach to France and Germany to begin negotiations and sidestep months of quarrelling. It would prompt Germany to withdraw unconditionally, seek League strengthening, and sign non aggression pacts with eastern European states including Austria and Czechoslovakia while fortifications references are noted for France.

Wetrodist Bishops Set for Merger Talks in Columbus

Pittsburgh April 28 The Board of Bishops of the Methodist church travels to Columbus Ohio for the quadrennial general conference opening Friday. The agenda includes church items, social problems, and a united front among the three Methodist denominations. Six veteran bishops will retire, including Frederick D. Leo Herbert Welch John W. Rob inson Frederick T. Kenney Matthew W. Clair and George A. Miller. Bishop Welch formerly led the Pittsburgh area from 1928 to 1932.

Journal Will Give Election Returns

Election returns will be available at the Journal office this evening as polls close at seven. Automatic tabulators will be used in all precincts to speed counts, with Erie county lined with voting machines. Gerry residents are invited to call for results.

Sylvia Gough Chief Witness in England Murder Trial

London April 28 Sylvia Gough once famed as an international beauty returned as chief witness for the crown in the murder trial of Douglas Burton a 20 year old book reviewer. Burton charged with striking Bose over the head with a sculptor s hammer at a Bohemian party alleging Bose beat Mrs Gough. Burton pleads not guilty. Police say Burton admitted the attack during a dinner party attended by Mrs Gough and others. Bose allegedly blackened Mrs Gough s eye.

Legion Leaders to Visit Corry for Luncheon

National Commander J Ray Murphy and Pennsylvania Chief John B McDade will address a 29th District American Legion luncheon at the Hotel Corry on Thursday noon May 7. District Commander Lloyd Stowe announced the visit and area Legion posts will be represented. Local officials and civic groups will hear brief talks and airdressers may accompany the dignitaries during their northwestern Pennsylvania tour.

Gas price dispute leaves some stations with discounts

Motorists could buy gasoline at 18 1 2 cents, with three stations Vin Vieet Kendall Oil Creek continuing to offer a two cent cash discount, keeping price at 18 1 2 cents for served customers. Dealers had agreed to 18 1 2 cents after a conference, but adherence varied and a general cut to 16 1 2 cents was rumored and debated.

Local relief urged as WPA alternative proposed

Senator James J Davis urged local administration of work relief funded by federal funds as cheaper than the WPA setup. He said a relief program is needed to provide employment for the unemployed and stressed taxpayers should get the best value for relief dollars. A mountain rage and his three children perished in their burning Parson home while wife and mother escaped to safety. Victims were Donald Gaudineer 35 and children Doris 13 Helen 8 and Barbara 4 months. Four children, ages 18 months to 14 years, were also killed in Imorco.

Amorosso Seeks Insurance After Avenue Blaze

John Amorosso of Corry files a $1,000 civil suit in county court against Queen Insurance Company of Pennsylvania seeking payment for fire damage to his First Avenue grocery store on December 16, 1985. Fire officials suspect incendiary origin. the blaze caused about $6,000 damage to the building and adjoining structures with an explosion heard by residents.

Legislature 10 Discuss Aid for School Groups

State Province Bishops Pay Tribute To Bishop McCort

The body of Bishop John J. McCort was placed in a crypt in Altoona after a burial at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
