In Seoul, President Syngman Rhee, facing massive street protests and U.S. pressure, offered to resign or call new elections and transfer power to a cabinet. The National Assembly urged immediate resignation and elections to replace it. No clear timing for resignation or elections emerged.
Cuban officers detained two American men Alvin Table Jr. and William Lees after they hijacked a yacht near Isabela de Sagua Cuba.
