Petty Officer Steve French Selected for BOOST Program
Petty Officer Third Class Steve French USN son of Dr and Mrs Charles R French of West Smith Street has been selected for the Navy BOOST Program. The BOOST Program trains personnel for entry into the Naval Academy NROTC or NESEP leading to commissioned officer status. He entered the Navy in August 1974 under the School Guarantee Program and after Basic at Great Lakes he attended the Mess Management Specialist School in San Diego earning high marks and top class standing.

Striking Miners Return To Jobs At Maple Creek Mine
About 800 miners from United Mine Workers Local 1258 ended a four day walkout at U.S. Steel Maple Creek Mine in Washington County. They returned to work after a federal judge threatened to fine the local $5,000 for each day of the strike if it continued.

Relatives Remember Air Force Captain Killed in Vietnam
In Gallatin Tennessee the Perry family recalls their son Air Force Captain Ronald D Perry who was shot down over North Vietnam in December 1972.
