Hitchhiker killed in truck wreck on mountain descent

Minister Refused Damages In Kiss Suit At Trial
In Kansas City on April 20 Rev James Cornish prepared to return to his church following a verdict in a $5000 civil suit. Bertha Thomas a 20 year old choir singer claimed ill health from a kiss she alleged the evangelist stole and kissed against her will. A nine white and three Negro jurors found for Cornish after about 30 minutes of deliberation saying the charge had no merit. The plaintiff sought $1000 in actual and $4000 in punitive damages. Cornish called the case a “witch hunt” and said she could not collect any money.
