The Pentagon reported a precautionary radio test where several aircraft along the Eastern seaboard picked up a distress signal later found to be a test. All submarines were accounted for and the test was conducted by a defense contractor with limited details released.
The notice lists admitted individuals John Bogniak Jr Richard Lee Mrs Ruth Bretherton Michael son of Jerry Sweet North Clymer Mrs Richard Shook Kenneth Nichols Matthew Siminoff. Discharged Harold Sphron Thomas Rathbun Mrs Hunt Stauffer Mrs William Burkholder David Huntley Curtis and son of Jonald Simmonson. Ambulance numbers and address notes included.
In South Bend Indiana Franklin T Wike a 20 year old church choir singer was charged with three gas station robberies after being identified by attendants. He was jailed and bail posted but the real suspect Gordon W Ward 20 of Niles Michigan confessed to all four holdups and was captured. Wike was released April 3 and soon married Dian Copenhaver. The couple settled in Elkhart where Wike found work. Ward pleaded guilty and awaited sentencing.
Residents and officials discussed a flexible zoning proposal amid concerns over how it could affect Corry and Wayne Township. The meeting noted Corry seeks annexation to gain a municipal golf course and a tax yielding plant by Enna County Plastics Corp. Officials stressed county planning would oversee enforcement and that the plan remains adjustable.
The article notes individuals with beefs meet with supervisors to seek mutually agreeable changes. Supervisors will then bring recommended changes to the county to iron out differences. Officials will monitor for a petition against the plan and potential move to voter input.
