Governor Pinchot agrees to gas tax increase and a fifty percent boost in automobile registration as leaders of the State House move toward a tax program. Wilkes Barre April 24 The 78 year old Civil War veteran Charles W Davis faces investigation as police tally 22 wives. A complaint lists multiple marriages and the sheriff studies a matrimonial career marked by alleged bigamy. A letter from Carie Bacon says he married her in Oxford Maryland December 28 1924 and left three days later. The case draws national attention as prosecutors weigh charges.
In a city hearing Alderman Stuart Meyer and Mrs Rose Swantek led to freedos for two alleged rootleggers after prosecutors found insufficient evidence to hold them for county court. Seven arrests were made by authorities, with most detained for May terms.
