Spring Creek area residents celebrate the fixing of a long notorious Route 426 bump after seven years of complaints and delays. The tale credits PennDOT foreman Neil McKay with sparking action after homemade signs appeared, followed by a quick repair by a PennDOT crew.
The Community Bandstand in the Park project committee invites all for Fun Day at the YMCA on Thursday April 28 starting 1 p.m. Activities include a cookbook entries judged, flea market, WWCB radio coverage, high school band selections, a Taster's Choice buffet, Dixie Rumblers music and a One-act play by Brokenstraw Players Theatre Company under Jim Downs. A 50-50 draw at 8:30 p.m. ends the day.
GIRARD Pa AP Pennsylvania school boards seek 250 each from 464 districts to fund a legal challenge to the state Supreme Court after Commonwealth Court voided the 1974 student bill of rights. The local committee argues discipline policies belong to each district under the School Code and appeals the ruling.
The ABC News Harris poll found broad public approval for most of President Carter energy program and a rise in his job rating after his address to Congress. Citicorp financed Sindlinger & Co. reported energy policy damaged financial confidence for 12 million households and noted public surprise at the plan.
Sen. R. Budd Dwyer, speaking in Harrisburg, urged PennDOT to divert funds and manpower to repairing winter weather damaged highways and potholes. He cited Corry Journal reports of pothole related accidents, including a Corry Area School District bus crash, and pressed for immediate action to protect motorists.
The Corry Memorial Hospital board of trustees reports a projected malpractice premium of about $50 000, down from earlier estimates of near $100 000. The December 1976 assessment funded a new hospital association insurer to meet Health Care Services Malpractice Act requirements, with Medicare possibly disallowing the amount in cost calculations. Also noted were buys of a defibrillator and repair costs for an x ray unit totaling about $5 200, and a hospital auxiliary gift of a volume respirator valued around $5 500.
A 19 year old college student in Whippany New Jersey had an abortion before a temporary restraining order could arrive. The order sought to block the abortion pending a rights decision for the fetus and father. The New Jersey Supreme Court had planned a Monday hearing on the case.

Washington AP reports Daylight Saving Time starts this Sunday at 2 a.m standard time, 3 a.m. DST. Americans lose an hour of sleep tonight but gain an extra daylight hour at day’s end. The familiar reminder is spring ahead, fall back.
Warren County family pleads for funds to fly Delton Johnson to Stanford for a heart transplant. Johnson, 48, survived a massive January 1976 heart attack after two earlier near-fatal episodes and remains bedridden. His wife Connie, who quit her job to care for him, appeals for about 50,000 dollars for the surgery and 20,000 for six months of tests and waiting time. A local CB club has raised 2,300 dollars. the family has sold nearly everything to fund the effort.
The Postal Service demands $1.05 million from the American Medical Association for underpaid back postage over three years amid a criminal probe into possible fraud related to the AMA Journal. Letters from Arthur Cahn threaten litigation unless the deficit, $1,048,967, is paid. AMA declined comment.
