Penn Central May Abandon Salamanca Branch Without Hearing
Penn Central filed March 5 with the Interstate Commerce Commission seeking abandonment of the Salamanca Branch and several other lines. The 33 mile route from Oil City to Tidioute spans Venango Forest and Warren counties, with a public hearing only if protests arrive. Local union officials warn the move could devastate Endeavor Lumber and King Lumber, reducing hours and payments for workers.
