The Lakewood board grants tenure to Principal Mathewson effective July 1 amid a split in the community. Supporters say it ends a long dispute and provides stability, while opponents from the Parents League vow to continue opposition to his tenure and contract.
Mrs. Lila Kinney died Tuesday afternoon at 9 30 in Cony Hospital following years of declining health. Born October 13 1867 in Concord township she lived in Ludlow Ridgway later moving to Corry area where she resided with her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Oscar Willis for twelve years. Surviving are three daughters and four sons including Orin B Kinney Warren Thomas Kinney Buffalo George Kinney Lynwood Calif and Paul Kinney Erie a sister Miss Lillian Bates Corry and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The body is at Bracken Keating Funeral Home with services scheduled Friday at 2 20 PM.
District Attorney announced Dominic will be presented to the May grand jury on April 28 and 10 a.m. for the murder case linked to the March 4 1946 slaying of Robert Fisher. The panel will hear evidence in 40 other cases including seven sex offenses and will weigh the Commonwealths case led by County Detective John Coates. Dominic previously pleaded guilty to the necessary charge after a preliminary hearing and signified intent to carry the plea to court. The grand jury will determine if a true bill is returned and Dominic will be scheduled for trial in May.
City solicitor Edward M. Murphy ruled that Erie deputy assessor Carl B. Schnur remains unpaid for the suspension period, a decision read to council and referred to a committee. Finance Director Sher Hickey declined to comment, while Assessor Andrew Sterrett avoided formal remark but said he and his aide would respond.
In Erie court a Corry woman, Hilda Stingel, was granted divorce from Pred Stingel who faced a five to four year sentence at Western Penitentiary for pandering. She testified the marriage arose from a lonely hearts ad and was for money, not affection. Stingel had previously married in Sheboygan in 1941 and was convicted of pandering in 1934.
