At a level crossing in Lille on April 23 a train and a car collided killing eleven people. The car carrying forty five schoolchildren heading to work in Lille. Seven died instantly and four died later in hospital. Sixteen were injured.
The Junior class play Skidding at the High School auditorium drew a small audience last night but impressed with sharp humor and strong performances. John Love led as Judge Hardy with a solid cast including Virginia Sullivan and Arthur Sweet, while the orchestra under Lucile Murray provided musical interludes. Tonight’s final showing is expected to draw a full house.

Miss Hamilton of Philadelphia files an injunction against Gifford Pinchot and officials to stop requiring a political pledge as a condition for appointment. The suit seeks to bar Pinchot from enforcing the pledge for notaries public and challenges printing of oaths and related actions. The action alleges the pledge is unlawful and beyond the governor’s power.
Bad weather delays city cleanup as snow and ice halt refuse collection originally set for Thursday and Friday. Ben F Starr, superintendent of public safety, says crews will start tomorrow with all city streets visited once, residents urged to place rubbish in containers at curbs by seven.
Snow and cold grip the region as a spring blizzard blankets the Alleghenies and cripples traffic on major highways. Snow totals reach up to seven inches in parts with widespread travel disruptions reported by state police and the night department. Temperature drops sharply as utilities respond and mountain resorts brace for continued wintry conditions.
Mayor G. L. Alexander announced plans for a Los Angeles air trip with a Cleveland stopover this afternoon. He will spend about a week in California, traveling with brother John Alexander and accompanied by Ralph Elston. The journey includes meetings with TR Patton, guest agent in Cleveland, and return plans are uncertain.
Air Vice Marshal Felton Fosey Holt and Flight Lt. Henry M Moody died when their plane collided midair with another craft. In Ohio, Patrol man Ralph Castner died in hospital from wounds suffered in a weeklong gun battle with two suspected bank bandits, one of whom was killed.
Wellington police clashed with about 200 communists at parliament gates as rioting broke out today amid confrontations and crowd unrest in the city.
Harrisburg April Zu. uritine Townsend Langhorne, former budget secretary, faced possible prosecution by the Commonwealth over missing records and documents from the budget bureau. Governor Pinchot charged Townsend with responsibility for the missing items and demanded their return, warning he would refer the matter to the Attorney General if not complied.
