Pentagon plans to bring home 3 million tons of war materiel
The Defense Department plans to haul about 3 million tons of decontaminated war supplies from Vietnam as Vietnamization winds down. Some gear may go to South Korea and Thailand, with scrap sold by competitive bid. Units stateside will receive tanks armored carriers trucks electronics and more after decontamination to meet safety standards. The effort aims to avoid new purchases though the work could run into fall 1972. In Pittsburgh AP Max Rafferty urged limits on family size, arguing overpopulation tops Vietnam concerns.
