Allies Tap South American Raw Materials For War Needs
Latin America, rich in rubber, tin and other strategic resources, is seen supplying the Allies as Axis supplies shrink. Estimates suggest 70,000 to 80,000 tons of rubber could be produced annually, though gathering from wild trees is challenging. Brazil receives credit from the U S Export-Import Bank for a $10 million project to develop Amazon rubber resources, while shipping constraints push South American exports to war materiel.
