Interstate Commerce considers federal licenses for trucks
The Interstate Commerce Commission has urged Congress to require federal licenses for interstate trucks and to collect data on rates and services. The move aims at fair competition with railroads, seen as a first step toward broader regulation in the public interest. The commission notes trucks’ growing cross state traffic and less-than-carload shipments have hurt railroads, while rail managers seek regulation applicable to all competition.
