Plumbing Code Upheld In Ruling By Judge Hirt
In Worcester Massachusetts April 21 three suffocated in a padded jail cell as smoke choked three inmates after a wire broke out in the Worcester county jail. Judge William Hirt upheld the 1937 Plumbing Code prohibiting unregistered plumbers from connecting water pipes saying only licensed plumbers should perform such work to prevent faulty installations and protect homes including electric water heaters. The ruling may force Corry City Council to adopt a local plumbing license ordinance. Herbert Leswing Montgomery County contractor challenged the code arguing the act of making a water connection is simple but the judge ruled the code provides necessary protection against improper fixtures.
