County plans bond refunding to cut Erie taxes
Erie County plans a bond refunding to reduce taxes from one to three mills over the next years. Controller Harvey M. Willis says interest savings could reach about $66,000 next year, with similar cuts possible later as the refunding proceeds. He seeks legislative support from Senator Joseph Ziesenheim and cabinet member Arthur Colegrove to sponsor the bill. The plan would let counties call in uncallable bonds and reissue at about three percent, down from as high as five and a half.
