Rebels seize two more outposts as Vietminh tighten grip within 1,000 yards of main barriers. Defenders receive mate strength from air in ammunition, food and war materiel as efforts continue to hold the fortress against advancing forces.
In Dien Bien Phu, French forces receive American supplied dakons and cargo planes dropping ammunition and materiel amid ongoing Vietminh assaults. Despite clouds hindering air strikes, artillery duels persist while Ho Chi Minh forces tighten their ring around the fortress ahead of Asia peace talks.
Former Fayette County assistant district attorney will serve as assistant defense counsel for Norman Moon of Connellsville in the courtroom slaying of Judge Allison D. Wade. Firemen from Stanford Hose Company spent nearly an hour flushing two quarts of gasoline away near the Esso Hull service station after Assistant Fire Chief Charles Collier detected gasoline odor along West Smith Street. Fire crews sealed the leak by diverting fuel to a catch basin on Hale Street, amid nearby open flames on Route 6 and near Corry Memorial Hospital.
A former prisoner testified at Dickenson court martial that Corporal Baward 8 Dickenson was tipped off about an escape plan. Cpl. Carrick of Blacksburg Virginia said he overheard Dickenson discuss the plan through a paper door at the Korean prison camp.
City planners formed a committee to study methods and costs for a new homes project. Members include Murthy Keppel Charles Braoker Homer Bulard and others from builders realtors and the Chamber of Commerce. Four potential sites were proposed one in each ward but land costs hinder feasibility. A follow up planning meeting is set for Monday at noon.

In Darwin Australia Mrs Vladimir Petrov, wife of a Soviet spy, was rescued as Australian police disarmed two Russian escorts during a tense attempt to force her onto a flight to Moscow. The dramatic scene followed anti-Communist protests in Sydney where 1600 demonstrators clashed with police who sought to prevent her departure.
The Red Cross appeal closed with Chairman George Greatt announcing total contributions of 74510, just short of the 8200 goal set when the drive began in March. Some donations remain outstanding but unlikely to exceed 50, and workers are thanked for their efforts.

Meade Park officials report a thief dug up and removed about 40 feet of three quarter inch water pipe laid last fall near a sheltered area. The theft occurred as planning resumed for summer activities. Last year the park association extended 1 200 feet of pipe to service fountains near Payton Glen, and the thief reportedly took pipe from that section.
NKU correspondent in Tokyo quoted as saying a highly secret meeting was held between French officials and Ho Chi Minh in Saigon to pursue peace in Indochina. The informant claimed the revelation came from three top members of the anti communist government in Viet Nam.
The Corry Municipal Authority voted to sell the city's $630000 sewage treatment plant bond issue to The Collings Co of Philadelphia at 3.4004 percent for a 26 year retirement. The move aims to avoid higher costs and uncertain terms from Travelers Insurance and other bidders. The total interest over 25 years will exceed $300000, nearing a million dollars for the project total. A 250 bus drivers strike halted public transit in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, the state capital with about 90 000 residents. The walkout began at 2 a m after failed wage contract talks with Harrisburg Railways Co. Private autos car pools and courtesy cars filled in as workers faced commuting disruption.
