City to extend Liberty street widening project in Erie
The state will fund a $100,000 plan to widen Liberty Street in Erie by adding two 24 foot roadways on both sides and repaving boulevard edges. Clarence H. Prilling, assistant city engineer, said work should start soon as part of the highway system. City council has not decided on the roughly $18,000 local share for widening West 26th Street and East Lake Road.

Fire Hazards in Woods Continue in Jeane Area
Fire danger in the Allegheny National Forest and nearby timber tracts persisted after brief thundershowers. Rain did not reach many sections, keeping the area in tinder dry conditions with high winds reigniting concerns. Two fires were reported yesterday in the northern ranger district and quickly extinguished by crews. No smoking or open fires remain in effect until the threat eases.
