Mayor Barber to Make Police Appointments
Brig April 18 report that President Judge Miles B. Kitts signed a decree allowing Mayor Charles Barber to appoint emergency police officers to fill patrol vacancies. Appointments must be provisional pending final state supreme court decision on World War veterans appeal. Judge Barnett had ordered reductions for civil service list and removal of 85 plus years old. Kitts previously stayed Barber’s actions, now altered. City Solicitor Murphy and Attorney Washa-Waugh argued before Kitts on Monday in chambers.
