HEW Must Speed South Desegregation
The Health, Education and Welfare Department must speed desegregation in 17 Southern and border states under court orders. The DC Circuit denied delay, requiring HEW to notify 116 districts of potential loss of federal funds for failing to meet desegregation guidelines and to explain ongoing discrimination in 85 districts. Hearings are required before any funding cuts. Ellsberg Copied Papers To Help Congress End War
Daniel Ellsberg testified he copied the Pentagon papers to aid Congress in ending the Vietnam War. He and co defendant Anthony Russo face espionage conspiracy and theft charges for copying a top secret study of U.S. involvement. Ellsberg said release would not harm national defense or soldiers.

Broken Gas Line Cause Of Explosion At Jamestown Bakery
A bulldozer ruptured a gas line next to Jones Tasty Baking Co in Jamestown causing a 100000 dollar fire and explosion late last week. One worker Rodger S Gustafson Sr 58 died. Fire officials and company president Frank Jones blamed the blast on gas leaks detected just before the explosion. The Jamestown Urban Renewal Authority had bought the building in February.
