Carl H Haas 62 of Dunkirk a railroad worker remains in critical condition at Warren General Hospital after a crossing accident near Warren Thursday. He suffered skull and finger fractures and other injuries while working with a New York Central section crew as a truck driven by Gustonson of Clarendon struck a bar used to pry rails causing the bar to spring.

Fire Destroys Historic Hagerman House at Towanda
Fire damaged the interior of the Hagerman House built in 1836 by John LaPorte in French Alsace village. Neighbors alerted firefighters. three companies responded. The loss includes original wallpaper and many antique furnishings. The house served as a showplace and centerpiece for a proposed restoration of the old French village. Mrs. Hagerman, a antiques dealer, lost her entire stock.

Plea Brushed Aside by Carnegie Tech Preky
Carnegie Tech president J. Warner dismissed a student newspaper plea to restore big time football. The Tartan urged re assessment of the de-emphasized program begun in 1939, while Warner noted no administration discussion of changing football policy.
