William Sutton, 37, of Oil City, received six months in the county jail after attacking Otis Houghtaling on East Main Street near Center. Houghtaling, refused money, was knocked to the street and bruised. Sutton and a companion were stopped by police. Sutton was arraigned before Alderman Gordon and taken to jail. The companion was freed.
Alice Neff, sixth grade pupil at Junior Hiigh elementary, earned second honors in Erie County spelling bee held Saturday afternoon. Miss Neff received a medal for her ability. Spelling champion Geraldine Selbetta, daughter of Dr and Mrs Li Selbetta of Erie, studied at Jefferson school. Blanche Gagnon of Chestnut Grove earned honors.
In St Paul on April 16 Howard Williams, director of the National Farmer Labor Federation, forecast a powerful nationwide Farmer-Labor party within five to ten years or the rise of fascism. He said the party could back Roosevelt or push him left, and urged public ownership of mines, water power, transportation, banks, and factories as core goals. He warned of the possible collapse of capitalism within the next decade.
Corry High School will send its band and flute soloist Bernard Bennett to the Northwestern Pennsylvania Music and Forensic League district finals at Oil City this week. The band qualified unopposed after the county finale at Line, with Bennett earning state contest eligibility. If successful, Corry aims for the state finals in Johnstown later this month and seeks local motorists to help transport the group, with a 9 AM band finals start and a 7:11 AM departure from Corry.
Mysterious murder of Philadelphia printing executive Bradley Brown appears solved with three arrests. Edward Adamaky 20 is jailed under machine gun guard. Adam Scawczak 24 is in Eastern penitentiary serving a three year term for a $150000 bond theft. Solomon Twitz, ex barber, allegedly supplied the car used in the garage shooting at his Mt Holly home last year.
Elyria April 16 Doctors fought to prevent more deaths after a Nev in lines bus en route from Pittsburgh to Chicago collided head on with a parked illuminated truck to avoid ramming it. Seven of the fifteen injured were women. The seven dead include Michael Prydych 29 New York Marl Kellogg 39 Lansing Sam Novak 28 Duquesne Christa Vasilevitch 40 South Massillon Floyd Stelmsker 98 Akron John Serbon 25 Holiday Cars William Dasiels 33 Pittsmish and A W Schatten 24 Norwalk. Both drivers were jailed in Lorain County awaiting further proceedings.
Detroit was set for an 8 PM test of a possible general strike weighing factory shutdowns and shop disruption. In Corry a public forum at Junior High drew a large turnout with a panel featuring school, parent, religious, and business leaders to discuss education and community concerns.

Investigators reopened the case of Arthur Todd a 70 year old recluse slain after a midnight party at his Belle Island home in Worwalk Connecticut divers pulled the Long Island Sound seeking a woman believed connected to the death authorities say he fell from a cliff after a cocktail party and multiple lines of inquiry focus on whether a second person was with him and if she fled or perished with him.
Police pursued a man fleeing from an explosion and fire that destroyed Mike Brooks home in Conneaut Ohio. Fire Chief R R Warren said evidence indicated arson and the fugitive was last seen near Erie hospitals and doctors offices. The fleeing man wore burning clothing as investigators tracked leads across the area.
The Supreme court reviewed a petition for change of venue by Ele County Commissioners B D Brown and T H Leden who are indicted on conspiracy embezzlement and fraud Went conversion. They seek a fair trial away from Bik county citing public sentiment. District Attorney Straub argues a fair trial is possible and no hostile influence exists.
At Courthouse Dedham Massachusetts on April 16 Superior-Jurkye Nelson P Brown ruled a jury must decide the fate of the Faber Millen trio of alleged Killerbandits. They went on trial today for their here Hyés.
Pittsburgh's highly publicized Sunday debate on Sunday movies drew a nearly blank stage as mayor McNair withdrew leaving Erie visitor McClanley to carry the argument. McNair's secretary and Montz remained to argue the Pittsburgh side while the Erie mayor spoke briefly before departure.
