Graft on Capitol Hill Taints Vital Statistics Office
A State official from the Bureau of Vital Statistics allegedly profits from selling official statistics to the federal government. The chief, earning 2500 annually plus 1000 for the Marriage Bureau, reportedly pockets about 3500 from the arrangement. A Democratic reform bill by Lowry Humes would require all such fees to flow into the State Treasury, curbing graft across departments.
