A federal grand jury charged former Illinois Governor William G. Stratton with evading 69,987 in income taxes from 1957 to 1960. The four count indictment, returned in U S District Court, targets Stratton and his wife on unreported income totaling 82,542 82.82.
Washington defense officials disclosed Secretary McNamara used intelligence estimates to challenge General LeMay over assertions that Soviet forces are closing the gap. A motorist found a toddler walking with a large black dog along West Smith Street. The dog wore a current Erie County license, number 7171, linking the child to Ben Craker of 247 York Street. Police traced the child to his guardian, with authorities noting the dog had acted as a protector.
