House committees rush work on bills in special session
In Harrisburg on April 15 the House summoned three committees for a special session to push workmen's compensation milk and liquor bills. The workmen's comp measure may move to the floor and revises payments toward those under the 1937 act. A bill to abolish the mill control commission and end retail price fixing was set for further changes. The liquor committee heard opponents of a bill to extend closing time for taverns and to push weekday openings from 7 to 8 a.m. Dry groups urged the extension of hearings for more testimony. The Senate advanced administration bills and discussed a plan to create a WPA like program if federal relief ends.
