Labor wage and hours bill moves to floor in House
A hard bill with escalator wage and hours limits advances from the House labor committee. It envisions a 40 cent minimum wage within three years and a 40 hour work week, with 25 cents, then five cent yearly increases, plus enforcement by the labor and justice departments and a 500 dollar fine or six months imprisonment for violators. Prominent roles are noted for President Roosevelt, the AFL, CIO, and lawmakers like Senator Gulley and Governor Earle, amid party tensions in Pittsburgh and Washington.
