Mining experts join probe of tunnel blast

Mining experts joined city county and state officials in a probe to determine the cause of a tunnel disaster that trapped 12 men. A coroner’s inquest was adjourned to April 21 to perfect reports. Morning dealings showed firm activity in Steel, Vanadium, Westinghouse Electric, Texas Gulf and Transamerica, all sliding to annual lows. Afternoon selling hit car maker shares with New York Central down nearly four points to a year’s low, along with Southern Railway, First Pennsylvania and Northern Pacific. Vanadium and Allied Chemical led losses in the industrial group, Vanadium plunging over six points after news of the company’s annual dividend omission. Pennsylvania rallied after maintaining its $4 annual dividend.

Washington April 15 The voluntary committee on petroleum economics reports that the oil industry will feel the business downturn through April and May. They predict gasoline demand will fall about eight tenths of one percent over the next six months, compared with the same six months last year.

Plane Crash Kills Indianapolis Man Pilot Near Death

A Curtiss-Robin monoplane departing Curtiss Airport New York crashed near Beacon New York injuring three men. A. Stein of Indianapolis died, R C Winslow also of Indianapolis was near death, and George Benton of Minneapolis was lightly hurt. The crash occurred after takeoff when a water line clogged and the plane struck a pine tree.

The report received majority approval by the Senate judiciary general committee.
