McHale Denied Funding for Rural Life Film in Pa
Agriculture Secretary Jim McHale sought 20450 to produce a 12 minute film on how Pennsylvania improves rural life. The Budget Office denied the request saying the department cannot afford such activity now. Kennedy-Lee Inc. would supply the film for 17250 with 1505 for four TV spots and the remainder for distribution and response tabulation. McHale clashed with farm groups over research fund control while diverting some funds to rural poverty projects. Opponents say such programs belong to Welfare. McHale argues rural life is a legitimate Agriculture concern. McHale has ties to the National Farmers Union, contrasting with the Grange.
