Navy boat patrols in Vietnam rely on volunteers by river
Gunner's mate classes at Great Lakes Training Center discuss serving on PBRs in Viet Nam. The boats use one twin 50 cal and one 30 cal gun, mainly for chase and search along rivers, not heavy combat. Vietnamese river assault group handles slower, armor vessels that probe canal routes. Engines are noisy at high speed, but PBRs are nearly silent at low speed.
