Red counterattacks rolled up along the Korean front today amid heavy losses, with Allied forces reporting 4275 killed and wounded. U S Eighth Army under Lt Gen James A Van Fleet pushed forward toward Chorwon and Kunu-Hwachon as air and ground operations intensified near Yonchon and the Hwachon reservoir.
South Korean announces April dates that Korean Marines seized Ongjin peninsula and nearby towns Kumsan and Whasin near Ongjin in North Korea. The advance involved the Republic of Korea Navy and the Korean Victory Corps providing support as Marines secured coastal and inland positions along Korea's western shore.

Pennsylvania Railroad officials announced the installation of automatic flashing crossing lights at the West Washivewn street crossing. The system will operate 24 hours daily on train approach. Officials expect completion within the next few days. A public talk will be arranged to explain the new signals to students using the crossing daily.
Three youths were arrested near the city today by police, identified as Erin Hit, Finick McDonald, and Ware Mictied. They allegedly fled from a car where they planned to siphon fuel from a gas tube. Investigators traced the case to Claysville and noted the youths had been linked to a day’s earlier abduction attempt but were held for further questioning.
A Fairchild plane carrying two aboard crashed in Walts Flats, 18 miles north of Corry, yesterday afternoon. Pilot Jack Hoag and passenger Pierre Olivier survived, walking from the wreckage after the motor quit. President Truman fired him sparking debate over military policy and public reaction. Senate and House leaders weigh inviting MacArthur to testify at a joint session amid partisan disputes and anticipated crowds in Washington.
Harford Brothers pipeline construction company of Emporium has begun a 19 mile gas line project to Corry. The work will continue for three years, laying the line through Warren, Corry, and surrounding areas. The project aims to relieve gas shortages during winter weather and provide value by improving supply in the Corry and Brie sections.
Washington schedules a April 20 hearing on the nomination of William Alvah Stewart to serve as U.S. district judge in western Pennsylvania. Stewart, 47, is a Pittsburgh city councilman and former Pittsburgh city solicitor, set to succeed Nelson Mewicar who retired February 1 after 23 years on the federal bench.
