Erie to appoint three directors to run county poor relief
Erie April 24 The poor affairs of Erie county will be governed by three appointed directors after January 1. The State House voted 121 to 57 to abolish the elective board. Gov Gifford Pinchot is expected to sign, making the change law. Directors will be county residents serving without pay, with expenses allowed. The new board will oust current chairman Harry Wagner and replace him with a welfare director and staff as needed. The appointed directors will assume office January 1, with terms of one, two, and three years and annual appointments thereafter. The two other current directors will become district employees until their terms end.
