The board approved raising the Bagley scholarship from 250 to 300 dollars for a graduate oferry High School class of 1927. Minutes were read and approved. A Melaines Steel Company bleacher offer was discussed but no purchase, and the board thanked the company. Tax collector reports noted about 1500 dollars in school taxes collected. Gasoline tax hike takes effect June first statewide
On June 1 motorists in Corry and across the state begin paying a three cent gasoline tax. Governor Fisher signed the measure to raise the tax and also signed the Sordoni-Faber Workmen's Compensation bill. Of the three cents, two cents fund the department and one cent remains only until the $50,000,000 bond funds become available in two years. Three pens were used to sign the bills. one pen to James Maurer, president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Labor, one to Senator Sordoni, and one to Representative Huber, with labor leaders from across the state in attendance.
