Mis April 12. Charged with murder, J J Payne known as a cowboy evangelist and his wife Vivian Tuplile Payne await grand jury April 21 in the slaying of Adelbert Ewing 52 of North Fairfield Ohio. Mrs Payne confessed to firing the fatal shot early March 21 after surprising Ewing and her 15 year old daughter in a parked car. Wife slayer sentenced Pittsburgh April 12. Thomas Cummings former Switsvale police chief was sentenced to 10 to 20 years for the murder of his wife Julia.
Over fifty city firemen met at the Stanford Hose rooms for election of officers of the Stanford Hose Company and the Firemen's Relief Association. Two new members were admitted. Officers elected include James Sullivan president and Charles Kinley president of the Relief Association. Prizes were awarded for attending the majority of fires during the year.
United Press reports a nationwide student walkout warned by leaders to be 150,000 strong. Wet weather in New York and eastern regions forced many demonstrations indoors, but early groups at 11 a m noted heavy turnout amid police guards for potential clashes with militant opponents.

Harrisburg April 12 The state emergency relief board adopted a resolution urging the general assembly to pass adequate tax legislation next week to prevent federal funds for the 1,700,000 needy from being withheld. The petition was offered by Speaker Wilson G. Lang and seconded by State Treasurer Charles A. Waters and Lt Governor Thomas Kennedy. Baldwin was absent. The board said unemployment relief must not end on April 22. Governor Kemp announced willingness to cooperate with Republican readers on tax plans. Funds exist to meet current needs, with future unemployment relief estimated at about 5,000,000.
