Little Chance That Bonus Will Be Given
Washington April 12 United Press reports that conferences among Republican and Democratic members of Congress on the soldier bonus left high sources opposed to the bonus predicting its eventual loss. It was not clarified whether they expected defeat in Congress or veto by the President and veto sustainment. Coughlin claimed 8,000,000 jobless and 8,000,000 under part time work and urged revaluing the dollar arguing it would undermine the gold standard while using the bonus to hasten it. He attacked wealth concentration and favored inflation and a cheaper dollar, proposing legal action to bring it about.
