Illinois voters back the New Deal as a congressional probe into Dr. William Wirt's brain trust collapses. Public interest in the alleged plot to overthrow the government wanes while officials delay further action until Tuesday. The scene shifts to politics and baseball, with leaders urging caution amid fading headlines and mixed reactions nationwide.
The Italian club in Will, with rooms at 221-3 West Main Street, will host its first public event at St. Edward's hall this Thursday April 12. The spaghetti dinner will be served 4 30 to 8 00, tickets 35 cents. Joe Amors heads arrangements with Mrs Tony Jackson to prepare the meal. A large attendance is anticipated.
President Roosevelt's recovery program drew strong support in Illinois as the primary returned a large Democratic vote. The party showed a lean sweep with 17 of 18 incumbents renominated and Rainey defeating James H. Kirby in the 20th district by a wide margin on preliminary returns.
Governor Pinchot announced that a schedule meeting of the state emergency relief board to raise relief funds has been postponed until April 14. The delay, caused by injuries to executive director Eric H. Biddle from a recent automobile accident, was described as not serious.
Washington April 11 The investigating committee today passed an amendment to the stock market control bill removing specific margin requirements. Senator Carter Glass of Virginia sponsored the amendment and guided its approval.
April 11 Washington Dr William A Wirt accused brain trust satellites of a red plot to overthrow the government. Rep Charge Foulkes D Mich branded Wirt Wall streets investment in a vital dictatorship movement and said he was an instrument in an eventual Nazi dictatorship effort in this country. He was given leave to go home by his colonel former Senator James A Reed Missouri.
Washington April 11 Soviet Ambassador Alexander Troyanovskiy and wife were formally welcomed at the Soviet embassy in a housewarming that closed the capital social season. About 1000 guests attended led by Secretary of State Hull and Mrs Hull with figures such as Sen Elmer Thomas and former Sen Brookhart. Invitations were highly sought after as Washington buzzed for days about the event.
In Sterling Colorado April 11 masked bandits robbed the Security State Bank of about $23,000 and kidnapped three bank employees before fleeing toward the Nebraska state line with their blocked cars.
Corry citizen and railroad man M J McMahon is named on the Hagor Roll of the Pennsylvania Railroad as of the first of the month. He joined Pennsy on March 1, 1903 as a car inspector in a big city, later serving as hostler and in the motive power division. He moved to the signs department in 1908, supervised signal equipment from Sherman to Ryand Farm, and by 1915 oversaw fall signal gear in local yards. In 1917 he became Signal Maintenance Foreman, supervising work on the Petesy lines between Buffalo and Ot City until 1920 when he took charge of all Telephone and Telegraph return equipment between Buffalo and Oil. City council plans a special meeting tonight to discuss pending ordinances including licensing for junior dealers and electricians and a proposal to create a new city job of assistant street commissioner at 59 dollars a month. The mayor previously promised broad public discussion, but short notice raises questions about public input on the job-creation measure.
Rotary members from Westfield and Total clubs attended a Tuesday dinner at Panama Rocks Inn served by George Davis. Glenn Sheets from Jamestown spoke on Liberia rubber industry and plantation life, sharing native customs and experiences from four years in charge of a Liberia plant.
A two and a half year old girl Dorette Zietlow died at St Elizabeths hospital two weeks after being kidnapped and abused by an eighteen year old boy. The child was found unconscious on the second floor of an abandoned livery stable containing frostbite and exposure. Police described the boy as a dreamer type and the father vowed vengeance against the kidnapper.
Evelyn Freschetti, longtime associate of John Dillinger, was seized by authorities at a North Side apartment. Identified as the woman who visited Crown Point jail two days before Dillinger's escape, she had posed as Mrs Dillingen and conversed with him in code.
WABASH April 11 A 65 year old farmer was killed in a shotgun duel as he tried to shield his daughter from neighbor Zach Sweazy 41 who attempted to claim Mabel Capes 38 and take her away. Capes died in the kitchen of his farm home from a shotgun wound while Sweazy was seriously wounded in the ensuing struggle.
Four members of the Athty family in Erie Pennsylvania were nearly killed by gas fumes from a defective hot water heater. Joseph Athty, 28, suffered a badly cut hand. Autella, 29, Margaret, 19, and a 14 year old boy were overcome. Joseph crashed through a window to call for help, Aubellie was bruised when she collapsed.
Moscow April 11 United Press reports three Soviet aviators led by the icebreaker Cheliuskin rescued 33 refugees stranded on ice after the Cheliuskin was crushed. Airplanes and ships moved to aid, with plans to rescue the remaining castaways as a meteorological expedition team and 12 women and children aboard. The effort involved routes via New York and Alaska, and prompt medical concerns arose for reporter Otto Schmidt.
Samuel D. Keith, 33, who rented a farm near Altoona, died after a brush fire he started to burn off land for cultivation spread rapidly. Neighbors could not save him as the flames engulfed the area, leaving a widow.
Mrs. Roosevelt, replying to charges of Communism, said the government program at Reedaville West Virginia aims to help people earn a living and buy homes. She argued decentralization and industry distribution enable more people to work and improve their lives, denying Communist intent.
Ralph Dewey was reelected superintendent of Ye Corry Public schools for a four year term at a special board meeting. A salary recommendation of 3800 for the first year and 4200 for the final year will be decided at next Monday's adjourned meeting. The administration and instruction committee urged a four year term with a sliding scale from 3300 to 4200 and noted Dewey's 15 years of experience.

Holm of Kane Pa The court held St Pierre resides in Kane not Elmira The action filed June 20 1929 followed a Ridgway Pa crash with another vehicle and involved claims of large payments to settle the matter
