Democrats Meet In Convention In Rochester Strategy Revealed

New York April 11 The Democratic state convention opened at the Lexington Avenue Opera House to nominate delegates for the national convention in Baltimore. Seymour Van Santvoort served as temporary chairman and John Fitzgerald as permanent chair, while Secretary John Mason and other officers were named. The platform reaffirmed much of the Rochester two years earlier, praised the Roosevelt critics and attacked Republican policy, with Dix, O Gorman, Murphy and Murphy’s allies among leading delegates. The convention did not set presidential instructions, and delegates will be unpledged but likely to reflect Murphy and Murphy allies. Roosevelt supporters planned a national attack while local leaders hinted at Mayor Gaynor as a potential national figure.
