Germans admit loss of Odessa to Russians
Reported in the Russian front line update the German and Romanian troops in Odessa were estimated at 100000 to 200000. German installations were destroyed and war material taken as Russians claimed success in disengagement efforts north and northwest of the city. Moscow said five broken German divisions remained trapped with 5000 killed in two days. The Russian drive extended toward the Grechislovek border and a push toward the Tatar Pass, while Berlin warned of Red Army attacks in the Crimean peninsula where about 100000 Nazi Romanian troops still held out.
