Across the United States chaotic strikes by switchmen halt rail traffic and shut down refineries and plants. In Pittsburgh, yards and related factories suspend operations as unions push for higher pay, triggering layoffs and severe supply disruptions nationwide.
A Linesville physician, 43, and his 14 year old son were struck by a passing automobile as they attempted to cross near a railroad crossing. The driver fled. a train was involved and the incident occurred around nightfall.
Miss Athan Nelle Nugent aged 40 died suddenly at the home of Mrs. William Cullen after a brief illness. She was born in Corry and spent her life here. Survived by a sister and other relatives, she was a lifelong member of the Brangh church. Funeral arrangements awaiting further details.
Three armed robbers in West Carrollton, three miles away, held up a bank and escaped with 425000 in cash and valuables after rounding up bank employees and customers at about noon today.
The Parent-Teacher Association met yesterday afternoon with good attendance and discussed plans for a May community night and end of term events. Volunteers were asked to mark off rounds on the school grounds and install lighting already secured. A short program featured recitations and papers on honesty and school duties, with refreshments waived during the session. Weather marked continued cold tonight with Sunday clouds.
Senate leaders moved to bring to a vote a peace resolution next week with Lodge signaling possible action. Hitchcook and Knox were away from Washington delaying timing as party lines loom over the measure. Close Senate margins could flip with a defection or two in the coming weeks.
Keystones edged High Five 8 to 0 in a fast basketball card at the State Armory. The preliminaries featured sharp play and long shots as Williams led for the High Five while the Keystones rallied late to pull away, holding a five point lead before the final buzzer.
At the Corry Motor Club annual meeting in the Chamber of Commerce room, officers were elected for the coming year including President L. W. Oldaview, Secretary W. D. Marsh, Treasurer B. J. Mollet, and delegates to AA A and Pennsylvania Federation. The group discussed AA A camping guidance, high garage charges, and efforts to curb unlawful auto repairs, with plans to cooperate with AA A and local officials. They also noted a state law pamphlet on ownership signs at public terminals and considered road improvements from Garland to Corry via Spring Creek, pending county and township approvals.
Funeral services for Mr Esterbrook were held this afternoon at the Wat Pleasant Street home with many friends attending. Rev M A Ralston of the Episcopalian church conducted the services and two hymns were sung, “In the Hour of Death” and “While With Me” by Margart Boe and others.
The British foreign office says the Allied treaty life hinges on keeping Germany to Versailles. It warns the French Rhine occupation risks weakening the alliance and threatens to withdraw from the council of ambassadors if France persists in enforcing its interpretation.
