Congress cleared for President Nixon a bill to halt a looming nationwide rail strike this Saturday amid ongoing wildcat actions. The measure passed the House 8 to 3 after quick Senate approval, despite questions of constitutionality raised by Rep. Dingell. In Louisville, about 400 L and N shopcraft workers walked out in protest, with picket lines at all facilities. The pact from December, rejected by the sheet metal workers, remains the central dispute as the 37 day freeze nears expiration.
