Rebels in Havana seized CMQ radio and CMQ TV facilities and called for an immediate general strike. Two cars on Route 413 near Tustown collided head on, killing Rev. Frederick W. McConnell 84 of Woxall Montgomery County. His son Frederick Jr 36 and Mrs. Tillian Lovett of Wrightstown Bucks County were injured and rushed to Doylestown Hospital. McConnell was a retired Methodist minister active with the Methodist National Board of Home Missions.

Bell Phone Workers Face Furloughs in Pennsylvania

Durantun, a Bell Telephone Co unit, notified the Federation of Telephone Workers that about 275 male employees in Pennsylvania will be furloughed starting April 28, with 100 in Western Pennsylvania and 150 to 175 in the eastern half. The union says most affected have under two years of service and that part-time work will replace full layoffs for those workers.
