An Associated Press report from Hong Kong states a two engine Siamese Airlines plane crashed four miles off Cape D Aguilar in fog and rain. All 16 aboard were reported dead and the crew of five were Siamese or Chinese with no Europeans aboard. Police and Navy search craft reached the scene about an hour later but fog impeded efforts. no survivors or bodies recovered. The plane had diverted to Formosa due to heavy fog and ran low on fuel before attempting an emergency landing at Kaitak Airport. Witnesses near Cape Collizion saw the aircraft dip toward the headland and crash.
In Frankfurt on April 9 General Dwight D. Eisenhower Jr arrived to review Allied troop deployments guarding the Eiberne frontier. He is expected to stay four days and inspect British forces and air units as part of a broader postwar outlook.
Frank Bell, 0, of 20 Mott shwel, released on $1,000 bond after arrest on burglary charges. Doling questioning Bell refused to answer and sought a lawyer, later appearing with attorney Bere Chase. Bell had been held since last week in Glenfield Jail. police tied him to Safecracking at Ngee store and attempted burglary in Duttee area, with about 35,800 in suspected loot.
The Packo grocery store at 64 North Center Street was sold to Mr. and Mrs. George Fiecardi from Jamestown. Paul Packo, who has run the business for 71 years, will stay on as manager with full stock, equipment, and real estate included. The new owners plan to move soon and continue operations in Jamestown suburban area. The sale has been pending during recent weeks amid final sale details.
Swollen Minnesota River flooded streets forcing about 4300 people from homes as temperatures plummeted to freezing. Most residents in North Manikau and nearby areas evacuated. 500 remained under orders in Mankato for care. Red River rising prompted flood warnings in Faria Moorhead and Nor.
A Corry family of seven lost their home and most belongings when a fast fire engulfed the frame farm home of Mr and Mrs Rudy Silvis on Corry R D 4 two miles south of the city yesterday morning. James sped through the structure in less than an hour. The fire trapped Mrs Silvis and their two oldest children who died later at Corry Hospital with other relatives hospitalized. Clark Lindsey, owner of the building and furniture, estimated losses above 58 000, mostly uninsured. The Silvis family, once occupying a nearby apartment, were staying with relatives when the blaze occurred.
Washington April 1 US defense officials released a widely circulated dispatch over the weekend indicating the 28th Division had been alerted for possible deployment to Europe. The report says the immediate future holds no guard units for Europe as plans focus on remaining personnel and equipment locally.
Mrs John Fine, wife of Pennsylvania's governor, is hospitalized at University of Pennsylvania Hospital for a routine checkup following a brain operation. Doctors report the postoperative condition is normal and patient is resting.
A World War II era bomber crashed into a cottage near Andrews Air Force Base eight miles southeast of Washington, killing three residents, Kay Snyder and Rene Denise Snyder two months, and IvIn Guyer of Gran.ttud, while injuring Mrs. Guyer and Samuel Snyder. The bomber’s crew, all killed, had been en route from Chesapeake Bay. Witnesses reported the craft struck the Snyder residence and the plane’s landing gear failed to deploy.

Charleston West Virginia April 6 Associated Press reports a mid air collision and crash near Wir wl Alee field in Pa. Rescue crews found several victims among 19 airmen from the 187th Fighter Squadron MTU Lightning Sywedron. The crash occurred as the plane attempted landing at Halk airport. Survivors and the dead were identified as members of the West Virginia National Guard and local residents assisted at the scene.
Meadville PA native Robert CL Siggins, 22, of Meadville, assigned to Company K, 88th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, earned the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in Korea on November 27. He aided four wounded soldiers under heavy fire, saving their lives.
