Origins of baseball traced from cricket and rounders to modern game
The history notes baseball's origins in cricket and rounders with Abner Doubleday credited by popular belief, while Cooperstown houses its Hall of Fame. Early play used underhand pitching and no bases, with two players per side evolving to eight bases and fielders as the game grew. The Knickerbocker Club staged the first match in 1846, and leagues formed in the late 19th century.
