Goldwater Urges Multilateral Cuba Blockade Plan
Barry Goldwater voiced support for an economic blockade of Cuba with U S aid to exile attacks and possibly an invasion, urged multilateral action not unilateral, and said the plan could succeed without U S ground troops. He doubted Russia would risk World Empire over Cuba and noted Cuba raid impacts, while U S officials denied a move toward reopening relations as Cuban rebels report continued commando activity.

Man killed wife son and relatives then turned himself in
In New Rochelle New York Charles Hansen 32 burst into his estranged wife Delores 26 home and shot dead her and their son Arthur 4 and three members of her family. He fled to a church where he handed two pistols to a priest and surrendered after police arrived. Police say marital strife sparked the killings with Hansen previously living apart since 1960.

Churchill Hero, Enemy to History’s Tide
Washington AP report reflects on Winston Churchill as a complex figure, praising his leadership and dramatic flair while noting his flaws. The piece covers his bid for honorary American citizenship, his views on Britain and empire, and his wary stance toward Bolshevism and Soviet influence after World War II. Churchill’s romanticism, strategic missteps, and enduring legacy are weighed against his role as a wartime leader and historian.

Clark Favors Pa Income Tax Over Sales Tax Hike
Washington AP Sen Joseph Clark D Pa favors an income tax for Pennsylvania instead of raising the sales and cigarette taxes proposed by Gov William Scranton. Scranton wants a half percent bump in the four percent sales tax and a two cent rise in the cigarette tax over two years. Clark argued the burden falls hardest on the unemployed and underemployed on a radio TV program with Sen Hugh Scott. Commerce Sec John K Tabor supported the sales tax increase to fund mandated services, program expansion, and to cover a deficit left by the prior administration.
