Rice Sworn In As Ambassador to the Netherlands

Rice, a former Pennsylvania state official and Democratic State Committee chair, was sworn in today as U S ambassador to the Netherlands. The ceremony was led by Angier Biddle Duke and attended by Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Rice plans to depart April 27 for The Hague, succeeding Philip Young. He is a 63 year old native of Arendtsville Pennsylvania, married to Louise Roger, with one daughter.

Mother Turns In Son For Driving Stolen Auto

An armed police report states a mother turned in her 15 year old son for driving a stolen 1959 model car. She overheard plans at home and followed the pair to a school pickup, confronting them and delivering them to Juvenile Court where both had previously been released on burglary charges.

City council weighs bids for city fuel supply

The Clearfield city council met to review four bids for gasoline oil and grease supply. United Refinery Warren and GLF Corry were the low bidders with United noting rates for regular gasoline 16 cents per gallon heavy duty oil 79 cents per gallon grease 625 cents per pound and pressure grease 162 cents per pound. GLF offered fuel oil 137 per gallon and No 2 diesel 197 cents per gallon iron detergent oil 60 cents per gallon. Dearing the street director said he needed time to review bids before awarding contracts before old ones expire tomorrow. In another note Curtis-Wright Corp will open 40 miles of Quechua Da streams to fishermen from June to September per Fish Commission chief Albert M Day.

Pennsylvania Joins Nationwide Driver License Check

Pennsylvania is among 21 states agreeing to pool information on motorists who have lost licenses for drunken driving. The federal Bureau of Roads said a national driver register will begin shortly after July 1 to prevent an individual from obtaining a license in another state.

Friends Free Girl Held In Wreck By Hair

A Rochester girl Linck Copps, 22, was trapped when her hat got caught in a wrecked car after it left Route 20 near the village east boundary. Miss Joye Storey, 22, and driver Lully one, and two male companions freed themselves and assisted Copps. Storey and Copps, with Kalish and Moran, were taken to Pair Vunuition Hospital for checks. Moran and Kalish were discharged after examination. The four were en route to Rochester from Pittsburgh to visit Kalish relatives. The accident occurred about 1:30 a m.

Plane crash near Greenwood Lake kills three in New Jersey

Police say a night flight from Amityville to Wilkes-Barre Scranton crashed into a wooded area near Upper Greenwood Lake, New Jersey.
