Provisions of New Tax Bill Announced

Washington April 7 nearly all provisions of the new tax bill were reported by the Senate finance committee within a day or two. The measure fixes a 3 percent tax on incomes under 1000, a 9 percent on incomes over 4000, a maximum 28 percent surtax above 100000, and a 25 percent tax on inheritances over 10 million. It also imposes 10 percent on jewelry over 25, 11 percent corporate tax, and 10 percent on admissions over 50 cents. Taxes on telegraph and telephone messages and tobacco remain, while lists of items to be taxed include beverages, stock, theater offenses, knives, daggers, garments, yachts, motorboats, carpets, wagons, trunks, and purses.

Paris April 7 United Press reports Dawes chairman of the reparations committee set Wednesday as the delivery day for the experts reports barring unforeseen mechanical difficulties. He presided at a session this morning and urged revamping and translating the reports. The Dawes panel weighs how much Germany should pay and aims to stabilize Germany’s currency and balance its budget while delaying a fixed total.

Corry Union Line 10 bids to be opened April 28

Bids for the Corry Union Line 10 highway improvement between Carey and Waverford will be opened April 28 and May 1 by the State Road Department. Two Americans Slain by Bandits in Albania

United Press reports two American nationals, George Te Long of New York and Robert Lewis Colemas of San Francisco, were killed by bandits on a Tirana to Setar road in Albania. Authorities dispatched gendarmes to the area as Albanian officials and the consulate expressed deep distress.
