Desperate Try Fails in Georgia DC9 Crash
NEW HOPE, Ga AP The Southern Airways DC9 Flight 242 crashed in a violent storm as it sought a landing on a winding country road. The wreck near New Hope killed at least 68 of 85 aboard, with the jet hitting trees and a grocery store before exploding. Pilot said both engines quit and windshield cracked. National Transportation Safety Board investigators led an eight man team.
