Jamestown Farm Shooting Kills 11 Year Old Jom Vitanza
Eleven year old Jom Vitanza was fatally shot with a 84 calibre revolver at a Gerry area farm on the Gerry Ellery Town Line road near Powerville. Coroner David Lincoln and state police continued questioning two other boys at Bemms Point as the investigation focused on the Barn scene and the missing details of the shot.

A midnight blaze in the basement of a department store at 822 East Avenue forced three families from their apartments and threatened two nearby buildings including Robie Pharmacy. Store owner Frank Sneiderman was overcome by smoke and revived after evacuation. Police officer Barney Lee and several residents escaped with their families as flames menaced the Robie Pharmacy and W. E. Donnelly hardware nearby.
